Rose Valley’s history

Rose Valley sits in east-central Saskatchewan, at the intersection of Highway 35 and Primary Grid 746, in the Rural Municipality of Ponass Lake No. 367. Settlers began arriving as early as 1904 and 1905, when Norwegian and Ukrainian newcomers came to the area by Red River cart.

The CPR reached the community in 1924, and Rose Valley enjoyed its peak growth in the 1960s. Wheat and dairy remain the main industries in the area today.

Rose Valley School offers Kindergarten to Grade 12 and received $250,000 in repairs and renovations from the province in 2003. About 8 kilometres west of town lies Ponass Lake Heritage Marsh. The town counts among its notable people jockey David A. Gall, a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, and country singer-songwriter Gary Fjellgaard.
